About Our Stores
The Firehouse stores are clothing and gift boutiques in serenely beautiful northwestern Connecticut. We’ve been a mecca for our born-and-bred locals, weekenders, ex-pats from “The City” and non-Hollywood type celebrities–more literati than glitterati. If your timing is right, you might run into a MacArthur “genius” choreographer or a Pulitzer Prize-winning author.

We used to be housed in a Victorian-era firehouse in New Milford, CT. That’s how we got our name. Then, in 2001, we moved to the beautiful old building that formerly housed New Milford’s department store and, later, its iconic 1950's style 5 & 10. In 2006, we moved to a big, embellished barn on Route 202 in a tiny hamlet (New Preston) of a very small, bucolic Connecticut town (Washington). We enjoy sharing our space there with the Reid & Wright Gallery, which sells vintage maps and prints and offers custom framing. Parking is plentiful.

On May 30th, we opened at a second location–in the happening town of Kent, CT at 25 North Main Street (Route 7), in the Kent Town Center complex, next door to the beloved Sundog shoe store. Kent is an historic town, nestled in the foothills of the Berkshires, 90 miles north of New York City. It is becoming known as the cultural heart of the Litchfield Hills. We’re proud to be here. (See www.kentct.com.)

In both locations, we have a graceful mix of merchandise–clothing and fashion accessories (just women’s fashion for now, but we’ll add men’s clothing in the Kent store in August 2008), luxury bath and home fragrance products; gifts, home goodies and gifts for baby (and bigger). We’re sophisticated, but with a softness–never self important or stark. We like to say we have a city sensibility with a country disposition. We love fashion and design, but we like it accessible and enduring . . . with a twist, not an edge. There’s always something to captivate you at The Firehouse.

We have brands many people know and love, others with a cult-like following, and others we’d love to introduce you to. We have, among others: Oska, Babette, Re-Set, Elemente Clemente, Sarah Pacini, Moyuru, Fabrizio Gianni, Christopher Blue, Jax Jeans, Majestic, Bkg, Three Dots, Flatiron Workshop, Isda & Co, etc. And, in Kent as well as in New Preston, there’s the wildly popular PennyAnnie at The Firehouse, a year-round, fully stocked section of current fashion, with prices at least half off the retail.

Among our gifts and home accessories, we have Mae Mougin, hand-made porcelain pieces for tabletop and for baby with a one-of-a kind look and retro charm.

The richly hued, hand-made porcelain collection by MUD Australia focuses on the elemental shapes, color and functionality of the pieces. Adaptable for many purposes, the pieces in the collection are complementary and are great for collecting or giving as gifts.

Jars is a line of Provence-inspired ceramic tableware from a 150-year old French company. Many pieces in the collection, such as serving bowls and vases, work well on their own and make wonderful gifts.

Antica Farmacista has captured old-world European charm and mystery with its collection of unique signature scents for the home that draw inspiration from the mystery of the Mediterranean Sea and the serenity of the gardens of Tuscany. Each fragrance is formulated with only the world's finest essential oils and natural ingredients, and every product is meticulously produced and presented in an antique inspired apothecary bottle.

Inspired by its name, meaning "The Perfect Bloom", Anthousa Home Ambiance perfumes are a collection of home scents that have been uniquely created to add fragrance and beauty to your living environments. Anthousa was created using only the finest elements for a blend of sophistication and freshness. When you open an Anthousa Home Ambiance it takes you back to a particular moment in time or a far away traveled place. From the elegant decanter and its hand-wrapped gift boxes to the perfected fragrances, Anthousa is an experience of pure luxury and perfection.
